An Invitation to Join PDC
Progressive Democrats of Colorado (PDC) is an initiative within the Colorado Democratic Party. PDC was founded in 2005 and became an official initiative in August of 2005. Many but not all of the founding members were delegates for Dennis Kucinich at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. While opposition to continuing the occupation of Iraq was a key element with the Kucinich delegates, we were also supportive of fair trade, responsible and sustainable environmental policies, universal health care, media, campaign finance and election reform, creating government that works for people, not corporations and above all a just society.
We decided to carry those ideas forward in the process of developing PDC as a voice for progressive solutions to our political problems. Our chief goal is to facilitate the exchange of information, and ideas, as well as creating dialogue aimed at creating progressive solutions.
Iraq and the money we are wasting there is still a key issue. Continuing to spend deficit dollars in Iraq and on George Bush?s abusive and failed ?War on Terror? prevents our government?s ability to invest in programs that can help create a dynamic and progressive United States. Additionally it undermines our nation?s legitimacy in the world community as a champion of justice and human rights. Ending the occupation of Iraq and holding Bush administration officials accountable for their bad actions is the key to solving the current situation there, and creating the potential for a government that truly works for its citizens.
We must respect our constitution and laws and make our nation a country that leads through example and not empty lip service.
As 2007 begins we would like to invite you to join us in our efforts. The Democratic victory in November is hardly satisfying considering the rampant level of corruption, poor decisions and fiscal irresponsibility created by over a decade of Republican policies and actions. The fact that the Democratic margin of victory was not larger is due in part to the perception that Democrats offer little difference from Republican politics, and that Democrats did not offer a clear message for what they stood for. A corporately controlled mainstream media has failed to properly report news and information. For years the Democratic leadership has attempted to create as little difference as possible between itself and its Republican opponents. Drifting away from traditional Democratic values and strengths and attempting to appeal to traditional Republican ideology has been a major part of the problem. This effort has seen an increase in campaign donations, yet has not produced a significant difference at the ballot box. We believe embracing progressive ideas, and supporting candidates who take strong progressive stands on issues is the key to creating a clear Democratic message, and a successful Democratic Party that offers a distinct difference from the failed corporate policies of the Republican Party.
If you care about making a difference in the direction our nation, and the Democratic Party is taking, and changing politics as usual, join us and help make a difference that matters. We do not walk in lock step and we believe it is ok to disagree. We are interested in the exchange of ideas and offering a variety of possible solutions so that people have an informed opinion and see that a variety of choices exist. We believe government should work for people not against them. We believe people can make a difference.
Have a look at our committee system, and see where you would like to plug in. We will be electing officers, and establishing our direction for 2007 at the initiatives meetings during the March Democratic Party Reorganization. Dues are only $10 per year. We also invite you to run for office within PDC.
